News from RAF Fairford

RAF Fairford will be seeing increased airfield activity during the months of March to May 2012.

From 27th March to 7th April, there will be a number of C-130 aircraft conducting an exercise, with around 300 military personnel temporarily attached to the base. These personnel will be staying in lodging on base during this time.

At the end of April, the C-130 aircraft will return to RAF Fairford, performing flying operations until 19th May. This three week exercise will be assessed by a team of inspectors, who will also be staying on base.

During these C-130 flying operations, there will be some out-of-hours flying, potentially as late as 11:00 pm on some nights, and there may also be some explosive simulations as part of the exercise.

In addition to the above, there will be another group of around 30 personnel at RAF Fairford from 23rd to 27th March, which may involve a parachute drop onto the base.

The recurring U2 mission at RAF Fairford will take place at the beginning of March.

Please do not be alarmed by the military presence at RAF Fairford during this time, or by any unusual noises or explosions!
